I'm repairing my stringers in my 22 scarab with epoxy and 2 layers of 1700 biaxail cloth, for the sole should I use the same 2 layers of 1700 and epoxy.

Hello GlassDave, Its 3/4 inch plywood rolled with epoxy resin, I havent rolled it yet, Im working on the stringers, its a 1997 22 scarab, I replaced the stringers just like they were from the factory, The are built similar to very long shoe box, built out of 3/4 inch plywood, if your familiar with the way they are built, then those box are capped from port to starboard with 3/4 ich plywood, Im replacing everything like it came from the factory. but my question is: should I cover the deck ( 3/4 inch plywood) with 2 layers of 17oz 45/45 biaxial,seems like it wouldnt be strong enough,. this is my first boat repair, so Im very lost most of the time Ive used epoxy on everything so far so I want to stay with th epoxy.

yes definitely stick (no pun intended lol) with epoxy if you have already started with it. Two layers of 17 would be rock solid, hope you are planning on using a 1700 rather then a 1708 (with stitched on mat) and yes definitely a 45/45 will lay nicely over that.

rte203 , l@@king g@@d and yes the 17 oz bi ax like dave mentioned is a very good fabric to use with Epoxy , and seeing that this is your first time doing this type of work i would like to point out that you should be somewhat careful on how you work or handle this fabric because it can , and will distort very easily .

amen to that RT, but it sure dues work well. I cant understand for the life of me how or why some of these supply places still dont carry it especially when the carry epoxies. Heck it wasnt till about a year ago that US Comp picked it up. 1708 is a total pain to wet out comparatively.

Dave , i apolgize for not calling you today like mentioned in a previous post, and the reason being is i was trying to finish up a few loose ends before the Holiday , and will give you a call tomorrow afternoon . .........But seriously with everything said above 17 oz - bi ax , has excellent wetting out quality , and Dave are you sure....... us- composites has picked up on using Epoxy with # 1708 because ............................i know someone who ordered there 635 resin , and was told that they had a special #1708 to use with Epoxy which is a total joke if you know what i mean .
