Default Slow water leak in the bilge (Bravo 1)

Have dealt with a slow waterleak in the bilge. Just yesterday, was able to see the water dripping in. Does this picture help anyone to identify the source? Is it bellows, shift cable, water tube, or ?

Should I disregard the decision and just replace all of these? Boat is 12 years old. 502 MPI - Bravo 1

Thanks for any advice.

my best guess is your pivot pin is leaking. Worst case is your transom is rotted out and flexing allowing water in. your leak is higher up because there is water on top of the cooling passage

I looked on http://www.mercruiserparts.com, but didn't see the pivot pin that you reference. Is there another name for it - or what is it's function?

Thanks.

The correct name is upper swivel shaft seal. I assume you boat in fresh water in KY so that would be the first place I would look. If it is, its a 2-3 hour job.
You probably want to get that fixed as soon as you can. Water coming in around the transom cutout is never good.
You do not want it to start rotting.

I see the upper shaft assembly on the drawing. (http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...STEERING+LEVER)

But I don't see a seal. Help me out.

Thanks.

Got it thanks.

Is there a way to confirm if it's actually leaking here before dis-assembly by using waterhose or ?

This is looks like a difficult job.

Is this typical with hydraulic steering?

Has nothing to do with steering. Nothing pivots.
Click on this old thread. Look at picture #2. This is the uppper swivel shaft. The gimbal ring will have to be removed.
Most likely the upper swivel shaft will have a groove in it and will need replaced. Easier to rebuild it all and do it once.
