Default surface drives?

We have a 31 american offshore with 572 blower motors set at 1000hp each it has imco extreme sc drives with 2 speed transmissions we have been thinking of changing over to surface drives. Anyone done this what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks

The advantages are:
You won't break them.
You will go faster.

The disadvantages are:
You won't be able to back the boat up as close to a seawall.
You won't get to meet new people who tow you in for broken drives.
#6 style props and Rollas are more expensive than what you're currently running.

Have fun.
