Default Dye or re-cover existing seats etc?

Can I dye existing boat seats a different color?

Looking to take seats, bench, cabin seats that are 95% white with other color inserts to say a completely different color?

Would dye work for this to make it like a factory look?

Or is re-covering them the only option?

Or something else?

Thanks!

you can spray discolored vinyl back to orig color or close for short-term fix, but i don't think a major color change will last. you are painting the top of the vinyl, not dyeing it...

I cant imagine some kind of vinyl spray paint surviving in a marine environment where it gets we, sweated on , sun screened on, rubbed on etc...reminds me of the hair stuff...

Default I have used the vinyl spray...

...dye products before!

It was a few years ago and on a vinyl interior for a car.

Visually it really looked good. Physically it had no life. After a relatively short time period the seat looked more like a hood where the clear coat has deteriorated.

Recover, the color in vinyl is right in the material as it's made. They may put a pattern in with a roller at the end but you cannot change that color per se.

+1...this is for a small area and not for a large scale job.

My boats interior was yellow & purple when i got it 2 yrs ago. Took it to Mitcher T & he painted all the purple to blue. Looks great & its supposed to last a long time. Take some pics, email mitch, & give him a call. Very friendly & a straight shooter, he fixed some other blemishes I had, no charge.
