He is going to need at least 900HP+ per side and to start with those engines it isn't going to happen. I would guess he is going to spend $25-$35K per engine plus about $17-$20K per drive plus $10-$15K in labor so say $85K to $115K as an educated guess. In my opinion, sell the Baja, take this $85K-$115K and buy a 90+mph boat that's built for those speeds!
Baja's of that size just don't seem to equate with 90+mph.

Best Regards,

3 words...buy new boat

that hull and those motors will cost a small fortune to reach 90+. Using the BAM calculator your current setup should be right around 73 mph. That is assuming 8300 lbs, 830 hp, and a hull coefficient of 230. According to this you would need 1300 hp to reach 91 mph.

Biggest thing that hurts the baja is...no steps. A similar boat with 830 hp and steps will run 80-82. At that point 90 is much more achievable. Just my 0.02

A LOT OF $$$$$$$$$$$$$

probably going to need to upgrade the motor's internals " maybe stroke to 540's " and then super charge

And I was just going to say that 90 on the trailer was going to be much easier to reach than 90 on the water with that hull. You guys saved me the trouble.

Looky here, 90+......But these are now Dart 540's with the 502 MPI top end (EFI, heads, intake). As the previous posts have said, get a different boat, hell this one is 34' long, and is forsale. Dyno by Innovation Marine at 519hp.

I have a 33 O/L that will run over 90.

Mine's not your typical 33 though.
It has the poker run cabin, Decolite stringers, extension
boxes and a high X dimension.

My engines started out as 575SCi's that have been
turned up a bit....probably 650-675 hp.

If he really wants to do it, he'll need to upgrade the engine
internals, add belt driven air cleaners,( it's probably going to take 750 to get your standard issue 33 + 90) shorties, something better than XR's, or the ability to fix them, or
the budget to have someone else maintain those POS.
cause they will break.

Depending on where you boat, sometime you cant
even use all that power.

Down @ LOTO on a normal weekend you're about as fast
as a HO or 502 mag boat cause that's what all the
chassis will give you....if the props are in the air, they're not
pushing you forward.

Then after he does all that, he's going to own it for a while
because 90% of the people that are looking for these boats
want them with just 502's or 496HO's.

I'll stop with the Debbie Downer talk now.

The 33 is probably the best model they made and is a
very versatile boat, so enjoy it in it's current form.

I love mine,it's a fun boat, but I see a ( 1 ) in my future
