Foley Motorsports, Mechanicsville VA
#1
My service experience with Foley Motorsports in Mechanicsville VA.
They are a dirt bike and Yamaha waverunner dealer. When I questioned their commitment to jetskis during our first conversation I was assured the mechanic knew what he was doing:
Late April I knew our 2003 Yamaha 1200XLT had sat all winter with ethanol fuel in the system and was concerned. I hooked the ski up to water and a battery charger and soon had the ski running but it sounded odd. I pumped the fuel tank empty, added a fuel conditioner to break up any old ethanol and changed the spark plugs. While it didn’t seem to make a lot of difference, I took the ski to the river to see how it would run.
May 4th we ran the ski and it seem OK but was sluggish and achieved a max speed of 36 mph (ran 62 last summer). I called Foley Motorsports and explained every detail about what I had tried doing and the results. I suspected the carbs were likely clogged up and from everything I had read they were long over due for a rebuild. I dropped the ski off that afternoon right before closing.
May 15th I call and am told they used “ether” to get the ski running and everything was fine. I said no way you fixed it for $45 and since my kids use this to please look it over again. The ski was 9 years old and although garage kept we hadn’t spent much money on it and it was time for a good “going over”
May 18th the ski was “ready” with a bill of $127….I was still skeptical.
May 20th The ski now runs 39 mph and is still very sluggish
May 22nd I am sitting in the parking lot when they open (closed Monday’s). I explain they have done nothing and that I have already missed one family trip and that we are going out of town Memorial day weekend and to PLEASE have the ski ready. I’m told the parts take a few days to get and I ask that they be rushed it.
May 25th Memorial day weekend…..no ski.
June 1st Parts for carb rebuild not in yet.
June 8th Parts for carbs in but no intake gaskets……..My assumption is that they forgot to order the gaskets and now realize it.
June 15th Gaskets still not in but should be any day now.
June 22nd Ski is ready and we pick it up. $500+ more dollars and its all fixed!!!!
June 23rd Ski does 39 mph and performs EXACTLY like is has all along.
June 25th It’s Monday, they are closed, all other shops are booked for weeks, I’m waiting til tomorrow to call them….hope I don’t “loose my cool!”
June 26th Ski is dropped off. The nice lady in sales is there and takes in all our info as the owner is “out” again.
June 28th Call in to find everyone left early due to the heat (can’t blame them on that, it’s over 100!!) Tell that same sales lady we will be there at 9:00AM regardless.
June 29th Pick up the ski, they haven’t looked at it and stated they changed the spark plugs (remember I did that before they ever saw it)
June 30th Ski still doesn’t run any differently and I’m done with Foley.
July 2nd Been asking online and looking for a solution…….while given 2 likely causes both are over my head mechanically. It’s going to Rozell’s Marine July 10th……wish me luck.
