Whats the correct way to bleed a hydraulic assist steering system?

its a Latham single ram external hydraulic assist steering..its cable from helm to rack..
I thikinging I should not have any play in the outdrive with boat not running..Right??

I have Latham power steering on my Fountain. When I recently had to have an oil/power steering cooler repaired all that was done was to hook everything back up, fire it up, and turn the steering from one side to the other. I did have to add fluid after using the boat for a bit but only once. What I am saying with so many words is it will bleed itself with use.

turning slowly lock to lock a few times while the engine is running should do the trick, make sure its always full of ps fluid, and yes it should be solid when engine is off

tryed turnig from lock to lock and still have about a 2 inch play in the ram..must be air because I did not have any play in the ram before I removed the lines to get to some other repairs.

Try leaving the oil (power steering fluid) filler cap slightly loose while turning the wheel lock to lock.....This should help with the air bleeding.......
