Default 35 fuel sending unit

I have a 1997 35 lightning . the starboard sending unit is giving wacky readings. I shorted out the gauge and it reads full and empty telling me the wires are good from the tank to the gauge. does any one know if these floats are a float type or what they call a reed type, and is there a better float to use that will marry up to my gauges. I would rather not pull the sending unit until I have something to put back. another guestion does any body know the depth of the tank. I think the boat has two 80 gal.

I had the same problem and I have a 1997 so I would assume they used the same type sender. Mine is a float. I just replaced the unit and was able to find one on ebay. Just type your serial number in the search box and several will come up. The serial number "should be" easy to locate on top of the sender. In my case it is under the back seat under the access hatch. You may have to use a little degreaser and elbow grease to clean but it is easy to find.

I only have a 60 gallon tank and it was very shallow. Less than 6 inches if i remember correctly. Not sure on a 35 if it is the same depth but longer. Or visa versa.

I would probably wait to confirm that with someone who has a 35 because I am not as familiar with all the variances as some people are on this forum.

Just wait someone will know the exact numbers for you.

I actually found the part number

290601820321

Maybe it's the same? Again not 100% if it is the same sender for the 35 as my 27

I pulled the sending unit out saturday. The tank measures 9 1/2 , the sending unit is a float type and looks to be 6 inches from all the way down to topped out. I guess I will change these floats to a new tube style, any pros or cons on these.
