My props have been out in the sun for the last 20-somethin years and are no longer polished! They have a dull calcium-like crust all over them..

It just destroys a magic eraser or scotchbrite.. What should I use to get this crap off?

Try lots of white vinegar and course steel wool. To polish use extremely fine wet/dry paper, followed again by fine steel wool.

The calcium stuff you mention generally comes from 'hot' water. When you leave your boat in the water at a marina / dock where there are electrical leaks you will see this.

Try this EASY and cheap try first. Get some CLR from the local grocery store, usually found in the dish soap aisle etc. Spray a little on or pour a little in one of those blue Scotch sponges and rub the surface. Let the chemicals do the work. May take 2-3 applications. Rinse off with water. I think you'll be surprised.

I use this to keep the exhaust tips a little shinier since they calcify almost immediately when running.

IMO, when I used CLR it did not do anything better than white vinegar. Vinegar is much cheaper. just my .02

Try white vinegar and baking soda.

+1 on white vinegar. works great on my ss tips

watered down muratic acid works great for stripping off buildup on stainless props. it works great on exhaust tips as well like others have said from when the "hard water" hits your hot pipes and water spots them up. A little #0000 steel wool works great too

Just a splash of White Vinegar in your wash water will clean suntan lotion, baby oil, sunscreen, motor oil, hand prints, and Lipstick off Fiberglass too. A couple of "Glugs" in a 5 gal Bucket along with whatever soap you're using won't damage anything, and it doesn't cut Carnuba and other Highly polished waxes so it makes a good cleaner for a quick Once over from time to time.
