540 CID 9:1 compression, Merlin iron heads, Dart intakes, 1050 Dominator carbs, Crower SOLID roller cams
.645/.659 250/254 at .050 on a 114

In a cigarette 35' flat deck, runs 72mph loaded but will only turn 4900 rpm. I hurt one engine and I want to freshen both. Is there anyway to ballpark what the power is currently (they are Hawk 540/575)?

I am more than likely going back with milder hydraulic rollers in hope of making more power at a lower rpm unless there is any reason I should stick with the solids... opinions?

What do you have for valve train? If you have some good shaft rockers run the soild cam! My valve lash has not moved in 20 hours!

it has studs, crower rockers and stud girdles. Its good OLD SCHOOL stuff...

Not sure why anybody would run a solid roller cam in a boat today , with the hydraulic cam's that are out there now . Unless you would rather work on it than drive it . Trust me side by side twin's in a 35 cig. I would not wish that on anybody !!

solid rollers have their place,but i dont think your 35 cig is needing them,as mentioned earlier,hyd roller cams have come a long way.i think the crane 651 hyd roller is as big as id go with 9 to 1 compression,it is a good all around cam that performs and sounds good.

I second that, no reason in something that mild to have a solid roller , I am running a hyd roller with .650 lift and same duration and never had the valve covers off in 100 hours, I am running shaft rockers however, Smitty

When I had Ron Potter take my 575's up to 700hp, the first thing he did was make it a roller motor.
I am not sure where you are but if you are in or near Florida, you might want to talk to him.

Innovation Marine in Sarasota does a great 540/600hp package with a hydraulic roller setup and GM heads. I've got 560 hours on mine, with only a preventative valve spring change at 400 hours.

thanks guys, I even considered sending the cams back for a regrind and trying to knock a little duration out of them. they are old school but apparently Hawk Marine used all good stuff in them. They have Crower Enduro Rockers, Titanium retainers, Crower rev kits and stud girdles, Crower lifters.
