Got out to the lake the other day and boat wouldn't start. Went to the marina and talked to them and they said that maybe I got water in the fuel. I took the fuel/water seperator off and poured its contents into a glass...no seperation.
If I spray a little starting fluid in the carb the boat will start but then immediately die. I had a friend tell me to check the fuel pump but I'm not sure where or how (yes, I know I'm retarded).
Boat is a 93' CHeck COnvincor 251 with a Mercury 502 carbed motor, Bravo 1 drive.
Any help/advice would be greately appreicated as well as where I should look to purchase said fuel pump if it is going bad.
Thanks guys,
Seth

get a guage on the line to the manifold and check for pressure when cranking... Also, being that it is a 93, you may just want to pull the carb and have it rebuilt and replace your fuel pump. Ethanol is not friendly to older fuel systems and you are probably all gunked up or have blown the diaphragm, or both lol.. Just my .02

Looking forward aft the fuel pump will be on the lower left portion of the front of the engine..most likely behind the fuel water seperator..easier access to get to if you take that off and move out of the way..when installing new pump be careful not to score the pushrod and I suggest taking it out first..inspecting and replacing if necessary if signs of wear or scoring anywhere (ask me how I know) and to hold it up out of your way when installing new pump..suggest putting heavy grease on end of pushrod..be sure it doesnt slip down behind fuel pump actuating arm before tightening..
Use this site http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec....asp?type_id=8 to get your part number (I dont know what generation your 502 is but you can tell on this site by matching your serial numbers..very helpful site for part numbers) then go on internet and shop for best price..NAPA does have marine fuel pumps at a lower cost also..give them the Mercruiser part number to cross reference if youy choose to go that route..its a fairly easy job although a pain in the ass to get to the area to install..I have 454 with TRS so I have to pretty much stand on my head to do it..had a bruise across my chest for a week from laying over the seat
Hope this helps

Come on Denny! If it's a '93 it would be a Gen 5 and the fuel pump would be on the sea water pump! Mark 4's are on the block.
Should be mounted right behind the pulley here.

Here's the pump.

Lastly, how likely do you guys think it is that the pushrod is broken or the fuel lines are gummed up compared to the pump itself being bad...
This whole thing happened last saturday and the previous weekend I had the boat out running with no problems.
