We are thinking of heading out to Fire Island on August 18th. Looking to hear from people that have been there where the best places to go are and where you would recommend to stay. We will be going by boat and would prefer to stay on the boat, just need a slip and electric hook up.
Also, approx how far from the City is it?

If you looking for the bars and nightlife thats in Ocean beach!! Ocean bay park is one town east and has a popular bar called flynns. Both towns have marinas. A little further west is Atlantique witch is a nice family beach and marina with basic amenitys bathrooms/showers. Out east for a daytime adventure is sailors haven/sunkin forest, has a cool boardwalk thru the woods and dunes. East of there is cherrygrove and the pines where you can grab a good lunch. Many good restaurants there! Be warned these are both Gay beaches so be prepared to see some weird characters. Also alittle further east of there is Davis park witch has a restaurant/bar called the casino. There are a few other little towns also and most have docks. For bar hopping town to town the best bet is the water taxis and these guys know all the beaches so ask them for other suggestions. Hope this helps Have a great trip.

I wish I could remember the name of the place I went back in the late 90's my buddy's dad had an Eliminator and we pulled up on this beach somewhere on fire island and I remember the bar being like 50 feet from the water and there were tons of nice boats there seemed like a good spot. I don't know if it is even still there. I wanna say it was a straight shot from Bayshore.

and one last thing, you have to take ocean to at least East Rockaway inlet which is where you guys came in last year when we met. From there you can take the state channel in protected water if the ocean happens to be snotty. Of course the ocean is faster if it is flat.......state channel has a lot of no wake zones but I enjoy the scenic route sometimes.........
