Default Dock Fenders for boats with no rub rail????

Hello All-

I know this has been discussed several times but for some reason I can not find the threads that discuss this.

We recently purchased a 30ft cat with no rub rail. All of our old boat had rubrails. Im a little nervious about docking this boat and damaging the paint.

What is everyone using for fenders here in florida where we have the big round pilings. What keeps the fenders from rolling off the pilings?

Thanks
Don

Don't think I'd tie up to anything LOL seriously sounds like a real issue, wish I had some advice for you my guess is you will need to carry a few different fender style along with long tie lines so you can tie them to the pilings

I have quick pins mounted down the side and use larger fenders and hang them from the pin horizontal just have to make sure the boat is tied right. Can't afford much movement for and aft.

I avoid round pilings. It is very hard to to use a fender on those. It can be done, but it takes more time and planning.

I also have pins next to the pop up cleats. What size/type fenders do you use?

Thanks
Don

Default Taylor Made...

makes a "pillow" looking fender.

I was thinking it might work to affix to the piling in a very secure manner so it wouldn't "spin" around it. Would also work well on a flat surface.

They might be a bit of a storage problem on most boats, but they do come in a few sizes.

additional infor:
They are called Fender Cushions

Flat fenders tied to the dock post works great but does not help untill after you pull up.

That looks like it may do the trick. I have often wondered why waterfront watering holes would not have better docks to protect the boaters boats from damage also floating docks so you don't have to climb up out of your boat to get on the dock. I know that it cost more but who wants to scratch or damage their boat that cost them a lot of money. Maybe boaters should combine everyone's idea's and send them to their favorite spots to dock and maybe to the Marina Associations in their area or country. This is what were would like you to do to protect our boats when we come to your establishment. This is just an idea that can be tossed around and hopefully a model plan can be made and posted on here that every can photo copy and send to the Marina's in their area and give to friends to also send in.
