Default Baja 272 MPG at no wake and cruise speed?

Can anyone tell me what the MPG for a Baja 272 at no wake and at cruise?

Also what is the cruise speed for this boat.

I think they came with either a 454 or 502, so maybe specify which one.

Thanks!

mine (2000 272)got about 1.8 to 2.0 mpg stock with 502 mpi, mpg is all dependent on how easy you drive vs how hard. It actually gets BETTER mpg when cruising real easy now with 1000 hp blown 540 then it did stock, Smitty

My 2000 272 w 454 mag mpi ( 23" Mirage plus prop) cruises around 40 mph @ 3500 rpm. I've never tried to figure mpg, but when running aroung Lake Ontario & Georgian Bay I average 10 gal/hr. I think you can expect aroung 4 mpg with normal running/cruising. For comparison, when I cruise with my brother in law's 21' Fourwinds w 5.0 litre Volvo Penta, we burn almost the same amount of gas, and my brother's 21' Seadoo w twin 215s sucks 50-70% more. I believe the 454/502 mpi are good efficient matches for the 272 in the boat world.

If you are worried about MPG for a boat, then you are definately getting into the wrong sport/hobby.

In general fuel usage for boats is based more around gallons per hour. At cruise rpms, the average Merc 454mag or 502 mag will use 16-20 gallons per hour.

I was told that 272 Boss with 502 was 3 mpg. Not even sure how you would measure that, just relaying the message.

I used to have a 24 foot Carrera with a 454 mag and I used to take the GPS on all trips just to see how many miles we went and I used to average 2 mpg for a day with about 100miles driven.I do not know the fuel burn rates for different speeds but this was a good way to know what my range was. That boat had a 750 Holley on it and the best cruise was about 3200rpm as the secondarys were still closed.

When my 272 w 502 was bone stock the best I ever got out of it babying it at real easy cruise was 3 mpg on long steady trip, on off throttle that was closer to 2 or so, I see 3 mpg now cruising at 45-50 on the edge of boost turning a 30 pitch and .3-.5 at wot

For a go-fast figure 1 mpg gallon with 2 engines and 2 miles per gallon with 1 engine........results will be slightly different per each hull design but I'm close. Based on "no-wake" fuel burn you seem concerned about this to the point that a boat might not be for you.
