Default Prop question.

I just bought an 88 seebold 265 with a 454 and bravo 1. I know it's not a gigantic offshore boat but I need some advice on a prop selection. I bought it with a 23 aluminum and it got 4800 rpm at a slow 47 mph. I know this boat should be a 58-62 mph boat but I'm at a loss for what kinda prop to run. I'm gonna try my buddies 25 pitch spinelli prop. Any suggestions?

Maybe 58-62 if you had enough power. What hp do you have? Is your 454 a 330? Then the speed of 47 sounds about right. A stainless prop will flex less than an aluminum so it will hold it's pitch better. If you can spin it fast enough it will be faster. You may gain in the midrange and lose on the top end.

Its a 330 but 47 seems way too slow. A buddy of mines old formula 242 with a 365hp 454 got 62 out of it. I dont see only 35 horse getting another 14 mph. Prop testing begins, cha ching!

Start off with the tried and true benchmark start off prop....the Mercury 23 Mirage, and go from there. You should be able to borrow one or buy one their always for sale, check out the classifieds. In that boat its probably a 330hp version, I doubt very much if it will pull a 25 but never pass up the opportunity to try a prop!

yea, my buddy has a 23 mirage on his 23' regal velocity (that thing flllies with the stock 365 in it). With the aluminum 23 on it, it felt like it started cavitating real bad one we put some decent power to it. The 25 pitch is a spinelli? "variable pitch". Im starting to wonder if I have a 1.65 drive.

Put the 23 Mirage on it and come back and tell us how it worked....what it does with a 23 aluminum means nothing

I have a 242 496MAG/375 w/Bravo I 22" pitch Bravo 4blade and I have topped out around 58mph, GPS and smart Gauges. RPM's where they should be. New Ethanol gasoline will be stripping 20% of your horsepower. Already in NJ.

Stripping horsepower is about the only thing you can't blame ethanol for...ethanol makes more power than gas. Need to use more to do it though. What's going on the the gas out there???
