looking to repair my skeg on my bravo 1 drive. My boat came in the condition. Can they be fixed? How are they fixed? What type of coating do you put on them. Mine need paint but what are they coated with i want a very nice durable finish

Upon the advice of my local marina, I sanded the skeg, primed the bare metal and sprayed 4 medium coats of urethane automotive enamel. Then, compounded the mask line out and the result was the look of black glass with extreme durability. Way better to use automotive enamel than rattle cans.

if its missing pieces you can have it fixed,,your soppose to remove the guts whan you weld on them but i have gottin away with not removing the guts if its a minor weld up job...i usually tig in new alunimum on the bad area and cool the case rite away so you dont hurt any of the seals..if your missing the whole skeg then you will need to remove all the guts and weld on a replacement skeg..

next i will sand the weld smooth and blend it in with the existing aluminum,then sprat the alunimum area with 4 coats of ppg's dp90 epoxy primer,let it cure for 3 days,wetsand one more coat of dp 90 then wait a hour then paint the lower with jet black imron by dupont...

Lot of prop shops do skeg repair. They actuall make blanks of complete skegs to weld on if necessary. Bare metal needs to be primed with zinc chromate primer. Mercury sells cans of gloss black for finishing which actually works very well.

Ok where can I get the real deal decals for the drives? I plan to have them repaired and the slag is not missing just chipped up then stripping the drives and declaring the whole thing so they look ever so beautiful!!!! Lol. But I want genuine decals not a knock off set off eBay that's paper thin and will fall off
