Default RC Boats Anyone build one from scratch??

So in the off season, I race RC Offroad Trucks and Buggies. I have been doing so on and off since just a little guy. Anyway, lately I have been thinking about purchasing an RC boat to play around with when anchored out at our local sandbar.... But then I though I want it to be as close to my real boat as possible. So I figured, why not build the hull from scratch.... Any of you guys built an RC boat from scratch or ran across a forum where guys are building them. Just curious to see others ideas. I would like a scale version of my Velocity..

I built an airboat from balsa from scratch when i was a kid but I think it was a kit. Had a little airplane motor it was loud as hell but fun.

jrcbd.com/content.php is a pretty cool site. Lots of cool projects & people to help. Just like full size boating, how much do you eant to spend?

I am thinking of building the structure in balsa, then laminating with fiberglass and gel coat.

It really isn't about how much I want to spend... I have all electronics as I race RC cars so I have an abundance of servos, receivers, radios, etc. And the materials to build the boat hull from scratch can't be that much. Balsa, fiberglass, etc...

My brother makes his own plugs and pops molds from them. Not rocket science but very time consuming. Be easier to find a hull and sculpt a deck to look like your Velocity. I can ask if he has a blank hull laying around if ya want.

Didnt really mean it like that. If you have all the stuff & can build it yourself it wouldnt be very expensive, you might find a similar hull to what you want for a couple hundred bucks if you dont build one the running gear would be around that & a motor a few hundred. I have a 4' cat with a full mod motor that will run 80+ it is evil!!

Im in the process of building a 48inch cat from plans i downloaded free. Stringers and bulkheads are made from plywood. Going to use balsa to cover it then glass it.

How thick and what type of plywood are you using?
