Any mid sized lakes near or around Bowling Green KY ?
#1
I have a job opportunity in Bowling Green area and I would like to know what lakes are nearby. I have a 36 footer so mid sized lake is needed.
Also need to know if there are any crazy bugs to deal with. Turned down an offer to go to South Carolina when the wife learned of flying roaches and black widow spiders !!!
Thanks !!!

Your best bet would be Lake Cumberland, which is about 85 miles. It's by far the best lake in KY. They have the Thunder Run in June and the Lake Cumberland Poker Run in September, both of which are REALLY good times. Barren River Lake is very close to Bowling Green, but you can run the entire lake in about 10 minutes. It's mostly pontoons and open bows. Old Hickory Lake is just outside of Nashville, which is a little over an hour from Bowling Green, and it's pretty nice, with several powerboaters. Check out the MCPA (Music City Powerboat Association) room on OSO.

Hello Smitty,
There is plenty of water all around Bowling Green. There is Barren River Lake just east of Bowling Green. Further east, the much more popular with us powerboaters (2 big poker runs) Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow. West of town are the huge twin lakes Kentucky and Barkley.
Just to the south (like a 1 hour drive) here in Nashville are Old Hickory and Percy Priest lakes, and the Cumberland River.
Actually the list starts there, and there are plenty more.
Bowling Green is a nice small city. You can easily boat 9 months a year here if you want to.
Best Regards,
Steve

36 footer, you dont want too put it in barren river lake.it would be like puting it in a mudhole, lots of stumps, logs, sneeky shallow spots, great fishing lake though. Dale Hollow is my favorite lake, its big and crystal clear and no trash(except around the holidays when the out of state boaters show up) Cumberland is nice also, its real big and lots of fast boats.
If you move here you will be happy with the lakes!

I have a satellite plant in BG. We are in Owensboro 72 miles north on the natcher. Lake Cumberland and KYL are great for where you will be located. Boh great areas with some to do. I prefer KYL because ou can boat in to TN to bars on the water. All ky boating lakes are mostly dry.

As far as bugs etc.... I don't honk we are worse than anywhere else but we deffinitely have black widows, brown recluse, copper head, water moccasin, etc etc. I'm not aware of anywhere without something to fear.

I've lived in BG for 21 years now. I'm very happy here. It is the 3rd largest city in KY and rapidly growing. The economy is very diverse and is most famous as the home of the Corvette. Western Kentucky University is here and has a beautiful state of the art campus with good athletics. We have good arts community with a brand new Arts Center. Dowtown has be redone with parks restaurants, etc... We have a minor league baseball team.
Beech Bend raceway and park hosts some type of big car event nearly every weekend. Land has already been aquired for a first class formula 1 type race track to be built by the Corvette plant and museum..
The cost of housing and living is very low compared to many other areas. Unemployment is low.
As far as boating it is a great central location for boating as every one has mentioned. I have a house at Lake Cumberland and it is about 1.5 hours away, it is obviously my favorite. Nashville has a great boating community and is less than an hour away. Center Hill is about an hour away. Dale Hollow is about 1.5 hour away. The Ohio river is about an hour to the North. Kentucky Lake and Barkley are 1.5 hour to the West. The Mississippi is 2 hours away. Destin is about an 8 hour drive.
We've got Eddie Young and Eric Betty 1 hour away for boat work. Lake Cumberland Marine is 2 hours away.
We don't have any crazy bugs or animals. Worst thing is some sink holes.
Feel free to call me and I might be able to give you more info. Eric
