hello all. i'm in the process of restoring my 24-7 pantera and i'm using ppg dplf epoxy primer and topcoating with ppg concept. there has been quite a bit of fairing and stress crack repair.

my question is this.....can i prime areas of the boat and then leave them for a length of time as i move from area to area? say i get the transom done, can i prime it and then move to the deck to finish it and so on?

i know i'll have to sand the dplf before i apply the concept if i don't topcoat right away but is there a time limit on the primer before the topcoat?

my thought is that it would be cool to finish off areas and then primer and block them down for the topcoat.

There is no time frame. Prime as needed and sand before you paint.

dp primer has a 7 day window! you do not have to sand it unless its been more than 7 days! however dp is a non sanding prime so it does not sand well! go over it with a scuff pad then re spray dp then top coat!

Actually it does not sand well if within the seven day window, outside of that its cured pretty good. I actually do it that way often, i dont care for a lot of unnecessary film thickness so i will seal sometimes with white DP with a splash of reducer in it. Hit it with 400 wet and go to paint.


Although its not really necessary to spot prime like on cars you can work in zones (transom, deck, port and stbd hull sides).
