Default Merc 496 Exhaust upgrade on a BBC 454

Hi -

For as much as I have heard about this exhaust upgrade, I have been unable to find advice on the best way to resolve an "oil filter conflict".

The 496 manifold and risers I acquired have a mount for an oil filter and circulation lines. The connector to the oil filter mount appears to be of a smaller diameter than what I have on the 454 setup. The oil lines on the 454 also seem to be noticeably larger in diameter. As such I am a bit reluctant to "downsize" to what came on the 496 (and the ends that connect into the engine also appear smaller so I may have compatibility issues here ....but I won't know for sure until I dive in and start disassembling). Maybe this sizing difference doesn't make a difference and maybe the oil line connectors are compatible with the 454 female side of this connection and if so great. But, at the same time, I've been looking for a creative way to secure the oil filter mount from the 454 to the 496 manifold. I am simply not seeing one without some custom fabrication though.

I tend to think I am overlooking the obvious here, else I probably would have found a thread discussing this.

Any advise on how to resolve this?

Thanks in advance!

Just mount your existing remote filter to the transom using some 1.5" angle aluminum.

x2, Stay with your original remote filter system, just relocate the bracket.
