epoxy filler shrinking
#1
hello all. i reworked my transom in the springtime and in the process i filled the tie down mounting holes so that i could slightly relocate them.
i used epoxy and a mix of low density filler & 404 adhesive filler.
the transom is in primer now as i'm working on the rest of the hull.
last night i was reviewing the work on the transom and i noticed that the epoxy based filler has shrunk quite a bit. i can see and feel the location of the work.
my question is this.....is it normal for epoxy to shrink some? will it stabilize and stop shrinking?
i hope so as i used an epoxy resin/404,410 mix to fill all my "v'ed" out repairs in the high stress areas of the deck and hull (around the engine hatch, along the chines, where the deck meets the hull at the rub rail joint, etc....)
thanks, rob.
