Default Who's Taken Their Offshore Performance Boat Offshore and Anchored Overnight?

I thought it would be interesting to hear about people who use their offshore performance boat as their "cruiser", and has taken it offshore (not a lake unless it is the Great Lakes), anchored it (not tied to a mooring), and stayed overnight with no amenities other than what the boat provided. Tell us about your boat, how it is setup for overnights, and where you have taken it.

I have! New Years Eve off Santa Cruz Island CA at Smugglers Cove. Awesome!!! We launched at Channel Island Harbor around 4:30 and headed out in my Formula 312. It was huge and all I knew was this one cove that was an anchorage.

We do!!! And by we I mean my local group. We have a 36 Baja, 33 Baja, 32 Pachanga, 31 Sonic, 311 Formula, 292 Formula, 29 Baja and 29 Fountain. Not all of us make it out together always, usually 3 to 5 at any time. We always find a protected cove, storms can creep up at anytime and only achoring on sand in open water is a recipe for disaster!

One or two of the guys bring Honda generators that are quite portable and quiet. They have portable speakers they put out for the tunes and a bonfire or two on the shore have been enjoyed. We have even entertained the idea of having movie night by throwing a sheet over the side of one of the boats and showing "Jaws" and "The Fog" as a double feature! One boat actually brews fresh coffee and makes pastries and breakfast sandwiches to recover from the night before (thanks Lourie and Mike)!

The sky is the limit really on how you can enjoy it. Bring as much as you can pack for the comfort level you want. The girls have to be "camper" girls though. The "high maintenance" types don't enjoy this style of boat camping, but our little group seems to really enjoy it and there is nothing like after a long day of performance boating, to pull into a quiet little cove, raft up and anchor in, and enjoy the sunset and stars while enjoying food and drinks with friends! It is the reason I do this.

I think it was the part that said "on the shore" right after "or two have been enjoyed". :-)

I have been trying to get my wife to do two things, sleep out on the boat at the lake, and go with me to the salt a.nd have fun. Neither has happened so I have no cool stories for this thread. Sad days.

Awesome!

If you left at 4:30pm, you must have gotten there around sunset. BTW, there are a bunch of great anchorages at Santa Cruz Island.

Before I got married I spent as many weekends as possible on anchor in granview bay in Angola,ny. It's a nice sandy bay on lake Erie with two beach bars I would drink all day with the boat crowd and then wander up to the bar at night. As far as gear I had a sleeping bag, a cooler, two pillows, a credit card, and hopefully a nice young lady for a breakfast trip in the morning. Those were some of the best days and my version of boat camping in my 20's
