Default GPS in a 2000 Formula 382 stepped dash

Does anyone out there know if a Garmin GPSMAP 531 will fit between the lower gauges where the fastech badge is? Ive measured it and it is SOOO close, so im debating on whether to buy one or not.

Is it best to use the garmin in-dash mount for this or is there another way to mount that will help it fit? It looks like the garmin mount adds about 1/2" all the way around the GPS face and im not sure if i have the room.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

I don't think that will fit unless you cut out more dash and that still may not work. I installed a 441 Garmin into my step dash and then a year later created new flat panels and re-installed the 441.

Thx JB. I have exactly the same boat as yours. Love your new dash. When you installed the 441 initially, did you have to move anythign around? Did you use the garmin in-dash mount kit?

I did not have to move anything when I installed the Garmin on my original step panel but did have to make the cut out larger for the in-dash mount kit.

Just so im sure i understand JB, you did use the garmin dash mount kit and made the cutout to the size that the kit indicated and you did not need to move anything around?

In other words you didnt need to modify the garmin mount kit at all, you used it as it came out of the box?

Thanks so much for all of your help.

Yes that's correct but also I did use a smaller Garmin.

Good luck with your project
