I have a 2003 496 Ho that doesn't like to start. Sometimes it starts great with no problems and other times it just cranks for a minute or more prior to starting.
I took it to a shop that replaced my low pressure fuel pump but this was not the problem.
Any Ideas on what this could be would be greatly appreciated.

possibly crank position sensor or i had issues with the fuel pump relay not working. when you turn key over to accessory position...does the fuel pump buzz in the engine hatch?
if not, may be fuel pump relay under plastic engine cover on top of motor.
That was my issue earlier this season then the low pressure fuel pump also went bad.

Im not sure if the marine 496 uses a fuel pressure regulator or not but it sounds like a common problem we have in the automotive engines. If the fuel pressure regulator is not holding pressure then it will spin over for alot longer than normal...until the fuel primes up and the engine starts. you can check the fuel pressure and if it slowly drops down just after your shut it off, then that may be your problem. Its worth a shot...
