Default BOAT PAINTERS: have questions

Painters I have a few questions, first I'm painting a 32' boat, not the bottom the sides and top, how many gallons clear I'm i going to need, I'm using 2021 ppg, and I'm using dupont base coat, any recommendations on a white base coat close to Cigs white gel, and as far as primer using PPG K36 should i be using something different??? thanks for help.....Joe

Why would you be using all PPG except for the Dupont base?

For both color and clear roughly two to two and a half gallons pending your spray technique, I would get two and see what the sides suck up before proceeding to the deck (you'll want to do the separately anyway) . I use a fleet white from PPG that is a dead nuts match to most current bright white gels, its number 91050 (ppg). Are you spot priming repairs or do you intend to prime the whole boat?

Exactly what I was thinking, why risk incompatibility?

good point, if its one color (is it?) just go Concept. Thats actually what i like about PPG's single stage, when buffed it looks exactly like fresh perfect factory gel.

yep, i used concept on my little searay 10 years ago and it still looks almost identical to gel. folks think it's mint original gel. the paint has held up remarkably well.

Thanks for all the info guys, there's 3 colors going on the sides and top, and this is the second time this boat is getting painted with in a year, the guy that did it the first time royally screwed it up, and the old adage goes if you want somthing done right do it yourself, so now I'm doing it, just didn't have time to do it myself the first time, now I'll make the time....as far as mixing dupont and PPG did it many time on cars, never on a boat, and the only reason i thought about using dupont base, that's what the first guy used, and the colors were mixed, like the colors, afraid that if I go ppg it wont match the colors, and the bow and stern rails, seat bases, gauge bezels, and other parts are done and painted in dupont. myself I like PPG, and i would use single stage if it was one color but got the 3 colors, Cig scrip and oval and I'm painting them on and like to clear over everything...priming over some work and leveled the sides of the boat out, i put a coat of K36 on it on Friday....
