They share the same bottom. I think they ride the same. Fuel capacity varies in the 342 if you have the genny option. 185 gal without. I don't remember with. 342 will be heavier if fully optioned with genset, heat. air, etc.
I was looking for whatever I could find the best deal on between the 33 and 342.
Having owned both a 29OL and 302 in the past, riding in a couple 33s and owning a 342 I believe they are sooooo similar that it would come down to $$$$ for me. But I like the looks of both the Performance and the Outlaw series.

The 342 may have had two options for fuel tanks depending on generator or not. In mine the tank is 145 due to the generator sitting down in the floor behind the tank under the rear bench. I think older 342's might have had the larger tank. When I took the gen set out this was a GREAT place to put 4 amps and the heavy gauge stereo amp wiring with cooling fans.
+1 to JTee - I never fill mine. It rides like a giant elephant sloth.
With the extra amenities, of course it is heavier. If they are gutted, I still think it would be 100-200 pounds heavier in the bow. Just an assertion, but there isnt anything left in mine and it wont get lighter that is for darn sure.

I love my 33 and fill the tank full everytime I go out. Running on Lake Michigan we never know how far we might end up going! Unfortunatly I have not noticed a difference in top speed with a light load but I hope one day I do and break the 100mph mark!
Full tank of fuel, gear, coolers, 4 adults, 95-96 anytime I push the sticks forward.
Good luck in your hunt for a new boat, seems like your on the right track looking at 2 great all around boats! Enjoy.

LOL!
Full tank - 1472 pounds
Full cooler - 200 pounds
4 adults - 800 pounds
Equals 2472 pounds!
(plus the weight of the 33 8500+/-)
+ 1600 HP
XR Drive failure what? I'll bet your XR straight cut gears send you hate mail! I would have bad dreams about that scenario... Do they ever make it more than 15 hours?
Dude, I cringe every time I go out Boynton Inlet with 3/8 tank and 2 people in 3 foot seas!
What you are doing to those XR's is an atrocity! LOL!
