Thanks for all the great information over the years.
First time I couldn't do a search for what I need to find.
Looking at a 27 Daytona with a stock 496HO. I'm concerned I'll be disapointed with the power and wish I picked up a Daytona with a 525.
Whats everyones thoughts? What speeds are to be expected with the 496HO?
How is the resale with the stock 496HO vs 525? Seems to be $15,000 diffrence on the used market.
I'm in Kentucky on Lake Cumberland.
Also,
Is the 27 worth the extra money over the 26? I know the 27 has cooler styling.
Thanks again.
BTW: Let me know about any 26 or 27 Daytona's for sale with Mercury power!!
PS my dream boat is a 28 with 496HOs well under $100,000

I think the 27 is a much cooler looking boat, but I perfer the standard deck, half windshields, although the icc looks cool too...
496ho in a 27ft boat? Don't expect to be going too fast, it would be more like a user friendly, super reliable cruiser with that engine. The 525efi Merc. pkg should run low 80s all day, I would think? And I would go with that setup, for sure. Plus if you eventually want to go faster, you can upgrade the 525 w/ a bolt on whipple kit and you've got a nice hot rod.

i own a 2006 27 daytona icc with a stock 496ho with cmi sport tubes on it. its a great boat. i owned a 26 daytona before this one. unfortunatly i lost it in a house/garage fire. it had a 525 in it. huge difference in the 2 boats other than the deck is the cockpit area room. my 26 had a s@#t load of room. from the back seat to the back of the front seat and the room between the front 2 seats was awsome. my 27 runs 76-77 mph all day. ive seen 79mph a couple of times but with good air. im running a 4 blade bravo 28p pitched to a 29 labbed and blueprinted prop. its not a rocket ship but its fun. my 26 i was running a 28p labbed prop and was seeing 87-88 on gps. sent prop out and was suppose to be gauranteed 91 mph but never had a chance to try it because of fire. its hard going mid 70's when your used to going close to 90mph. but i have plans in future for this boat. hope this helps!!

All of this sounds about right. I had a 26 and looked at a lot of 26's and 27's before I bought the 26. It had a 500efi and would run high 70's, 77-78. Both hulls are 26'10" but as Daytona27 said there is a big difference above the rub rail. Ultimately I bought the 26 because of the space in the seating area. Huge difference, but I did like the styling of the top deck on the 27 very cool. So it's all about how much space you need in the seating area. One of my best buds has a 26 with an 800 hp whipple charged engine. It will run about 120. I agree with all the speeds that have been quoted. Low 70's for a 496, high 70's with a 500, ought to be low to mid 80's with a 525. Good luck, you'll love the boat, whichever it is.
