Does anyone run a VHF radio and what type of antenna do you use with it?

Yep, always have a VHF radio onboard..first boat I had a regular uniden radio with the six foot Shakespeare antenna..now I have a raymarine hand-held radio, doesn't have the range of the regular radio, but it works for what I use it for.
