Default Uneven gelcoat surface...

So... I though I would remove one of my decals that was not one of the original decals and replace it with AN actual stock decal when the boat was new. After removing it I thought that compounding the surface would even it out... it didnt. It does shine great and the color matching/fade is perfect, but the surface as you can see in the picture is very uneven. You guys have any suggestions on how to go about this?

Wet sand with some 1200 grit until its even and then buff it out.

That's funny. I clicked on the link, and then Next a few times, and ended up at Boater Girl of the Week!

BTW, I agree with Griff. Just be careful you don't go through the gelcoat.

I would be kinda sketchy about wet sanding that much. Not sure why it happens like that but every boat i have seen that has some age to it has this issue when peeling the stickers off. Could it be due to the gel actually shrinking from being weathered, sun beat? Only thing I can think of.
