Default 340 vyper questions

Alright guys, I currently own a smaller 232 baja and looking to step up to a big boat. I found a decent deal on a vyper and really thinking about it but don't know much about the boats.

a buddy of mine has a 95 formula 336 and I have driven that boat a few times and like it, How similar is the vyper going to be to that boat? how about quality? head room and such?

It has 454 mags so what can I see for speed on something like this?

any help would be great.

Thanks guys

They are a very large 34, its going to be bigger than your friends formula. Fit & finish will be better than that year formula, they are well built and have a very large amount of storage, the cabin is the biggest you will see in any comparable boat. As far as speed, 67-69 will probably be what you will see with the 454mags

Post some pics

Better fit and finish than the Formula? I've been on a lot of PQs and Formulas of differing models and years. I don't see that statement being true one bit. I boat every weekend with 2 buddies that have similar boats. One is a '97 290 PQ Enticer and the other a '96 303 Formula SR-1. Both in pristine shape. I do not see what you see in terms of the PQ having better fit and finish.

I've owned both. Both make a nice boat, but overall the quality nod goes to Formula. Although buying used it would be very dependent on the specific boat you are looking at. Either would be a nice boat.

the 95 formula will have the weird lines interior and the poofy padding under the vinyl along with the cheap looking black dash... so yes, a vyper will have better F&F in my opinion... i think the cabins are hands down better also. So i see the statement being true

I'd call those personal preferences, not fit and finish items. Symantics. To me fit and finish is the mold/gel work, rigging, hardware installation, fitment of interior pieces, etc.

The 340 will have more cabin and cockpit room than a 336. Cannot comment on ride/pefermance between the two as I have not been out on either boat.

I think a 340 with 454 MAGs would be a bit of a slug.

I test drove a new 34 with 502s. 4 guys and no gas - I know that because we ran out during the test drive. Very nice boat, but with 502s it runs ok, but not stellar. It is a big enough boat that blue motors would be the way to go IMO.

the boat will be mostly used on the chain of lakes so small lakes with not much room to go WOT for long. Im going big because i would like to go out on lake MI once in a while. I was told around 68-70 with the mags. I would be happy with that especially since ive seen the mags go about 700+ hours with no issues.
My baja now has just a standard 454mpi with abotu 550 hours and runs great.
