how do these painters spray the sides of these big boats with paint with mettalic and not get zebra stipes in it? they just good or do they use a different kind of spray gun with a bigger fan spray? just curious

Its a combination of several things.
Materials - use a high quality base coat with the proper reducer for your temp
Gun - This is a preference thing as far as brand a model. You will need a professional gun with good atomization, the right tip and cap.
technique - quite possibly the most important. Takes very good gun control and proper overlap as well as using some dusting techniques for evening out the way the metallic lays.

+1 and all the above...i dont put it on real thick..tic tac toe and 45 beg angle usually works..also if your using a siphin cup i put ball bearing in the cup and shake it like a rattle can..but those were the old days,,now i got use to my sata's and theirs no turning back..

i bought my first gravity feed gun in the late 80's and never looked back. It was an Optima with a solid teflon body, still have it today. I think i still have my old JGA and MBC in the bottom of my tool box for nostalgia lol

Anyone ever use pressure pots? How many times are you refilling the gun on a boat this size? I heard the pressure pots help distribute the metallic thru the gun evenly. It looked like the pot set ups (for a decent one) was about the same price as a nice sata or devilbiss. I was curious myself which would produce a higher quality metallic job
