Esters over an eopxy is a no-no. The epoxy releases an amine blush that inhibits the cure of esters. If you are doing repairs below the waterline check into 3M's premium VE filler, works and sands great and can be gelcoated over.

Thank you so much. What if I was to spray some DP 40 or something over it once its and it before I gel coat it would that work.? The only reason I ask is because the front of my boat (front pad)were it gets beached is not a place I would like blondo or something like that. The epoxie would be very durable I would imagine that situation . ?

On another note I purchased the water tite so I could fill sctraches below the bow eye and wet sand a buff them without top coating or painting etc.. The I find out it is light blue when I get it so I tried mixing hardened gel coat with it to tint it yesterday And it did not dry . The guy at the marina told me this gel ibought was like a bondo that I ciould use. Tunred out to be just gel coat..

When the DP line of epoxy primers first came out they recommended it be put down under fillers about a year later they retracted that recommendation based on the problems that surfaced. I got stung by that one lol. So no on the epoxy prime under gel. Unless your going to re do the entire area with the epoxy filler it's really not going to make it any more durable, in other words just your filled chips/scratches will be stronger but the rest of the area is still gonna be poly. I would do the repairs with a good vinylester resin and West Systems 404 high density and then gel the surface.

fwiw. I restored lots of High end cars and have done tons of metal work.( since 1984) Metal can sweat, and people the bondo over grinder marks leave air pockets from the grinder scratches. This is not boat repair but fwiw.. Finish all meatal on Cars w da 80 grit da. They changed dp 40 to lf. and also the mixin is 4:1 insead of 1;1 for the environment and the user.. Mix dp40 40 LF 2 partrs harderner to 3 parts primer.( otherwise it is too soft). Apply it at the end of the day.. Next morning apply bondo. I like rage extreme.. This will last the longest protecting the metal to any sweating , condensation or corotion normally assosited with bondoing on restorations, patching metal etc..

I got some tintable evercoat gel paste and matched my area under the bow eye where the smaller chips are yesterday, Today I will see If I can sand it and buff it out.. Then I will move downward to the lower front v pad and i will look into the 404. I also picked up the 3m ve yesterday to make repairs on my wavey strakes at the rear..Thanks Again I'll post pics

I used the evercoat polyester gel paste on my front below the bow eyes that just had some deep scratches ) not into the glass). Although I thought i had tinted it too white , once it dries it's a little too yellow ( I am a bodyman so I can see color differences more than painters ) The color diff worked great for the guide coat affect too sand off enough to fill only the imperfection.
Anyway . Not noticeable at all when done and polished. So my question is.. Would I continue using this ( cause I already have some) on the lower front v pad ( see pic) ? Or does it break down. get brittle etc. .It starts as a clear formula.. ( like the fibergel of the old days), Or I can run to west for the 404. Thanks Again

I am so stoked. I fixed the front without spraying anything and I can't tell (and I have have been a bodyman painter for 30 years.). It looks greeat. It was scratched up like the bottom but not as bad .
