I am wanting to change the sea water/fuel pump on my gen 5 502.. I want to get rid of whole set up and get something new, since these set ups have issues. I know that I will have to go with a external fuel pump right? Or is there another set up?
Thanks

For the mounting bracket, you will need item 26 and item 34.... http://www.perfprotech.com/mercruise...sembly/978/140

So if I change to this sea pump, how do I go about wiring up a fuel pump? I mean I dont want to have it on a seprate switch, like I did on my outboards..and have to remember to turn it off and on all the time..

1. find a purple wire, like the one coming from your distributor and use it for 12 volts positive. The purple wire is hot when the key is on and not when the key is off. You can splice into this wire to run the fuel pump...turn the key on and the pump comes on. Turn the key off and the pump stops.
2. The other thing that you can do is run a hot wire from the pump to the ignition switch...the side that is hot when yoou turn the key.
Either way will do what you want and again, the toggle switch is to turn the pump off with the key on or in case of some emergency.
Mount the ground wire to the motor block somewhere.
You should run your fuel line from the tank to the water/fuel saparator, then to the electric pump, then to the carb. The fuel/water saparator and the fuel pump should be mounted as close to the tank as possible and also as low as possible. Electric fuel pumps are "pushers" and mechanical pumps are "suckers". The ideal place for the pump and the filter is below the top of the tank. Usually when you change the fuel/water saparator, you will have to fill the new filter with gas before you mount it back on.

IMO, its waste of time and money to swap to an electric pump. Why fix it if its not broke??? There's thousands of the fuel/seapump that work just fine. They just need the lube changed every 1-2 years.

Ya I know it works fine, but I am thinking about a blower upgrade next spring and while the motor is out of the boat I might as well change it right?
