Default Ocean Express 25 - looking to find some speed

Hello everybody

Been hanging our here from time to time but not posted so much. However, just recently picked up a OE25 with twin Johnson Second Effort V6's and figured it was time to start writing..

Boat was originally sold in Finland in early 90's, but I bought it from a guy in Sweden and brought it back home to Finland. Looks like it has seen little use, it's had a refurb on the interior and gauges in 2010. Looks pretty sharp.

We started off last weekend with a test run to se how it would perform..

http://youtu.be/BSeD7pYPriQ

We did 90mph on the speedo but GPS only gave us a little over 80mph and the boat was porpoising quite badly. The gearcases have nosecones and we lost quite a lot of putty from them so that didn't help much on getting the trim right

Anyway we now have a few inches of snow and thinking caps on ho to fix it.. any good advise welcome, I've only ran cats with wider tunnels before.

The boat is btw a '90 and has the old verson of the hull with only one "proper" step.

Hey Kim, I had the same hop. Mine is an '89 with stock 1991 250 Yamaha's w/ LWP nose cones. 15x30 labbed merc cleavers, I'm about even with the bottom I have spun in and out. I ended up building a tunnel tab ( these can be real dangerous in the rough ) I use it when I'm on flat to medium water to get through the 'hop'. I was never able to 'drive through it'

Look up my old posts and you can find pic's etc. BTW Sparky at Vicious Marine, now in South Carolina helped me dial it in. He knows these boats, look him up.

Good luck, let me know if I can add any more insight............. I love my OE...........

Ran a pair of cleavers 15x28, with a marking saying "S&S". Mirror finish, nice looking cleavers. Don't know the full history on them. Running them spinning outwards.

I have a pair of Bravo 28s too but recent snowfall have dampened my enthusiasm to go testing...

Jolley, your boat "Wild Cat" seem to have the twin step bottom + shortened planing surface. Mine have the older version with single step..

I knew that some had a 'rocker' and some had a 'hook'. Maybe call or write to Ross Focht to find out more. Good Luck with the boat

The pre 1990 had a lot of rocker in them, they took out a lot of the rocker in my hull. Two completly different mold's

Checked the bottom today, no rocker or hook in it. Looked surprisingly straight..

So time to round up the usual suspects.. will redo the lowers (got nosecones), change the centre of gravity (probably glass me up some serious standoff boxes) and trial a pair of Bravos for the back end to ride on (instead of the cleavers). We'll see how far that will take us..

10F in the (non heated) storage room today so I didn't stay long creeping under the boat.
