With some clearancing you can do it, but you will either end up with a pretty steep rod angle or a short piston with a less than ideal compression height.

the merc 496 used a 4.37 crank..get pictures and compare the crank to yours..dont think it will work in a gen 6 block..

does anyone have opinions on a scat 9000 crank? i am not building anything too crazy and they are listing them to be good for 700hp. ill be lucky to get to 600. i would be looking a 4.25 in that case and building a stroker based off of my 454

Nothing at all wrong with using a Scat crank in your setup. It will be just fine at 700 hp. I have used them at close to 1000 hp in the past. Not the crank of choice for that application. The engine was suppose tobe in the 750 area and the customer just kept turning up the boo st. It eventually make 975 hp, and did so for years.

Thanks for the info on the scat 9000. Coming from a person with experiance with one is what i was hoping for. For what i am building it sounds like it will handle it. Are h beam rods and forged pistons a requirement at 600 hp? Those were my original thoughts but i am also more familure with small blocks and hyperutectic pistons always have handled what we have thrown at them. Keep in mind i have no intentions of boost on this motor, just a decent n/a budget minded setup. Thanks againnkn the info eddie

I broke one after 5 yrs of abuse from 450hp to about 650hp. Broke just after the number 4 main saddle and left 7/8 journal unsupported at 5000rpm. Destroyed the block. For $300 more I'd go with the forged scat. I'd be ok using a nodular cast crank to 500hp now, no more.

yes and yes.. and if your adding stroke you will need a longer rod, less pressure on the side of the cylinder wall..6.385 length..and if forged you will have to internally balance it and have your flywheel machined and zero balanced and use a 427 harmonic balancer..
