Have a friend looking at buying a 2004 boat with 575sci's, the motors have never been rebuilt or opened up at all, and have 160 hours.
He is considering all his options including possibly selling or trading them for more mild power. Ideally 525's.
What would the 575's be worth to sell outright, complete?

The 575's are mild power by todays standards. And after he has the boat a bit, like all of us, he most likely will want to go faster. That motor is easy to get more power out of with minor upgrades.
I say keep them.
I say keep them.

Being someone that was in the exact situation a few years ago I speak from experience. When I was purchasing my Sonic I was thinking I would do the same thing. Because of OSO I was able to do a ton of research on the 575sci's and decided to keep them in my boat. And I really am glad I did. Tell your friend to do his research and he will see that with a tiny bit more preventative maintenance he can have a very reliable engine that runs and sounds great. Plus as stated already they make a great platform to easily squeeze more HP if he ever feels the need.

I have had 6 of them. The bottom end are serious. All after market rods. The only down fall is if it was in salt water, no how much you flush them the intakes rot out. That's the week pint on them. I had one motor go bad. A valve stuck, broke and it was bad from there. However this was from a faulty exhaust header that leaked.
