Always wanted one of these, and now a 98-03 outboard models have dropped to my price range. Wondering what is the average cost to run one of these over a weekend? Say with a pair of 300x's or promax's. Or a pair of 2.5's. I think they have a 105 gal tank? Fuel by me at the dock will be $4.80-5 a gallon for super this summer so its a good possability to pay $500 till fill the tank. Just wondering how long that will last me with normal usage (ie getting on it here and there but mostly standard cruising and sitting around). For someone who has owned an OB model, what was your average cost to run the boat for a day or weekend?

I have owned a few different 30 cats.

30 Motion powered by 300x's
30 Motion powered by 2.5's, then 250xs's
30 Doug Wright powered by 300xs's

The 2.5's are much worse on fuel than the 300x's. On an average weeked I would burn 30 to 50 gallons with the 300x's (approx 50 to 80 miles). The 300xs's if driven under 80 will get 3 mpg, so I am down to 20 to 30 gallons a weekend. Hope this helps.

I had a triple 280 30' Motion that was not bad on gas. Running hard 100+ in Poker Runs it would get 1.5 mpg or a little better than the I/O boats that run that fast. The 300XS is the engine to get for fuel economy. The 300X can be thirsty. A wise man once told me HP take fuel to run WOT. 300 hp whatever kind of engine takes a certain amount of fuel to achieve max power. Some engines run super lean at lower RPM such as the E-Tec outboards. I had a big cat with twin 1300's that was real easy on the gas at midrange cruising. Aired out and 1/2 throttle at 100 it would just sip the gas.

So its safe to assume the average weekend tooling around in this thing mostly under 100mph (say about 30-50 miles) is using about 20-30 gallons?

Also With a pair of 300xs and full gas tanks what is the towing weight of one of these? If I have a vehicle rated for 5000lbs towing capacity is that enought for short distances? (20 miles)

First off I never ran those O/B cats with full tanks. The 30 Motion held 200 gal. That is 1600 lbs you can really feel and slow you down,
Hull is 2400 motors 650 each. With trailer you will be over 5000. I personally do not like to tow with under rated trucks. Not the power of the engine it is the brakes and suspension that will get you in trouble.
