I am contemplating keeping my boat at Lake Mead for June & July this summer since Havasu has been home port for over a year now. How does Mead compare as far as the lake in general, storage/mooring options, lake entertainment / hot spots, etc., etc., etc.? I would appreciate any input.

I have been boating on Mead for 35 years and it is a great lake with many miles to explore and you can get in the middle of the party or get away from it easily.I have never slipped my boats so my knowlege there is limmited but I can say this.Mead is a national park so it is controlled by the federal government(don't need to say any more)and there is no entertainment other than the coves where we hang out.Havasu blows it away in that area as there is no Pirates Cove or any other place like it but I would say to try it as the lake itself is fantastic.Places to hang out would be Sandy cove,Wishingwell cove,Hallet beach ,these are a few places where you will find the crowd but no partys like at havasu as the feds will put a stop to it.Bottom line is if you are looking for another Havasu Mead is not it but still a great lake.I always put it this way,Powel is a senic lake Mead is a family lake and Havasu is a party lake.

Thanks for the info - it sounds pretty great and I think I will try it. Being so close to Vegas, who needs parties on the lake anyway! What is the indoor storage situation like near Mead?

There are several storage places in Boulder City(15 min from lake)and some more on lake Mead Drive in Henderson but as I said I have always kept my boats at home and am just not that knowlegable on storage.Plenty of parties in Vegas and not hard to find, just make sure to fuel the boat before partying in Vegas. We didn't build this great playground off all the winners!!!lol

Last I heard, it was down farther than that, with no end in sight. But, still plenty of places to explore, and lots of uncovered areas that are usually only reachable with SCUBA gear. Might as well enjoy Mead now before its completely dry.
