Default Can a radar scanner be repianted?

I suspect the type of paint matters, and maybe even prep.

Has anyone here actually repainted a yellowed scanner, and can honestly say there were no issues with the radar unit afterwards?

There seems to be a large void of knowledge at cruising boat sites one this question.

The 250 page manual does not mention a thing about the repainting of the scanner.

Thanks.

You can, just try to avoid metallic paint or a paint with a metallic based pigment. Some white paints use titanium dioxide pigment for example. IMRON should be fine. Although I have not personally done this, every radar dome here at work (a radar range) is painted.

You first can test whatever paint you want to use by painting a paper plate, let the paint dry and pop into your microwave oven. The plate should stay cool and not throw sparks. That's an indication the paint is RF transparent.

Be sure not to damage your dome with aggressive sanding.

Make sure there is ZERO metal in the paint.
Go thin.
