Background: I plan on getting M series speakers from JL audio for the boat this winter. I have a 22' Donzi so there are four speakers, one in each corner of the cockpit. I currently have 6.5" speakers.
Two questions:
1. I can fit 7.7" speakers up front, however I don't think I will be able to do the same in the back. There is some upholstery just above the speaker and the floor is just beneath it. Is it okay to put 7.7" speakers in the front and 6.5"s in the back? Or would this sound/look weird?
2. Is anyone aware of the product cycle with the JL marine speakers? I don't want to buy these expensive speakers and then have updated speakers come out next week!

ok then no problem to have 6.5's in the back and 7.7's up front
and yes the 8.8's are out finally, I am planning on putting two pairs in to replace one pair of 7.7's and one pair of 6.5's, which I could sell if anyone wants them hint hint...

I already have 3 pairs of the 7.7"s and one 10" sub. I'll be adding a pair of these 8.8"s as well. I can tell you the 7.7 speakers sound great.

Both sound good, have both in my boat. Highs are a bit sharper on the 7.7's and they have a touch more mid/low. They will also show a bit more volume over the 6.5. That being said, the 6.5's are very good and I like the way they sound, maybe even more so than the 7.7 just because they are touch mellower(to my ears). Can't go wrong with either or a mix of the two. Have not heard the 8.8 yet, just because I am very happy with the current setup and have no reason to upgrade or change at this point.

Plum Crazy- thanks for the link
hotjava66- Thanks for the review, based on that a mix of the two is the way to go.
Along with the speakers I'm getting the Fusion IP700 stereo unit. Same idea as question number 2, is anyone aware of an upgraded version coming out in the next few months? If so, I'll wait to buy.
