Default 28zx/zxo custom upholstery

Recently bought a 2001 ZXO scorpion. The vinyl has seen better days and is starting to crack here and there. Looking at re-upholstering the boat and wondering if anyone has done anything custom. Looking for ideas, colors, patterns, designs and so on. Thinking about combining some of the individual cushions in the bow. Also it would be nice to access the storage from the bow instead of the mid cabin, but I would worry about removing too much structure if I cut an access hole under the rear bow cushions. It has the divider bolsters on the rear hatch and thinking about deleting them to fit another person. Thanks for the ideas, already anxious for spring!

At the lake, I also have a zxo (03). I love this boat. I have had it for 2 seasons. Your idea of accessing the bow storage is great, on my boat I can get the front middle seat cushion and the first ones on either side to open, other than that that you do have to go into the mid cabin. As far as custom work, Pier 57 in Chicago has posted some great work on their facebook page on some “makeover boats.” If you’re from the Lake of the Ozarks, Waves and Wheels has posted some great pictures as well. If you are looking to replace it stock, you can try Donzi direct. Com. I have ordered a few things from them, the guy I talked too worked for Donzi, and now runs the online business. I think his name is Justin, he was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Donzi direct.com has the patterns, and can do custom work. Ask for Josh..

Some of the earliest opens had a solid front set of cushions that I don't think you can open at all. Mine has the forward 3 cushions that open.

Most ZXO's don't have the rear bolster seats so that's easy to obtain. I don't like the bolsters either because even with fewer people it seems they tend to sit off-center instead of exactly on one side or the middle.

The interiors on the 28's were all basically the same. White base with big accent and little accent colors.

I think that overall style works... If I redo mine one day I might go with ZR style headrests. Try to add on to the bolster headrests and change the rear ones to the newer style ones.

I'd also consider changing the front quite a bit. The bolster style is fine for the front but reality is loungers on both sides would make more sense, where the rider would face forward. A table up front was optional and on some ZXO's. I think I'd consider adding that as a high/low table and put a filler cushion for making a sun lounge up front.

A friend of mine does vinyl and has agreed to help me out. Might check into a few parts from donzi direct to save some time.

My forward 3 cushions open also, I will see about making an opening for the rear once I get it apart.

I like the idea about the ZR style head rest. Wonder if the ZR seat would fit on the ZX seat base and fit the electric actuator… Also like the idea about bow filler cushions, didn’t think about that. Agree that the lounger does make more sense. All the deep crevasses up front make it a pain to clean.
