Default Pulling engines to fix the damn steering pin seal leaks. Suggestions of other things!

Pulling the engines due to steering pin seal leaks. I know, JR marine a the backdoor way but I may as well pull since its winter and do it the right way. I plan on replacing a lot of typical wear and tear parts but any other suggestions of what to do while i have it all apart? 1997 34 powerquest vyper, twin 502 efi bravo ones.

PS I do plan on replacing bilge pumps, repainting bilge, etc. and yes checking for wet wood.......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Given the age of the boat I would look at replacing cooling hoses & fuel lines. Cheap insurance if your already in there. Randy

I did that job last spring!! It seems like a big job but it's not too bad. I put a stainless swivel pin in, new cooling hose, and trim senders too. I had already done bellows and shift cable the season before. Oh ya, I changed the hose from fluid reservoir to drive also.

You could swap the Gimble ring too, if the swivel pin is shot then the Gimble ring holes could be worn too, easy to check when it's apart,

Make sure where the pin goes - the area is still round and not worn out 1st!!! I had to replace 2 transom assemblies because the pin wallowed out the transom assembly hole. Still an easy but $$ pricey repair.

Other than general cleaning and detailing etc, you could consider adding drain extensions to the block and cool fuel drains for making winterizing easier or ball valves with a lever. Maybe a 3rd small bilge pump set low in the back of the bilge for nuisance water that the other pumps can’t get. Extra engine compartment lighting, 3rd battery if you don’t have one. Powder coat engine mounts. Just some ideas.

Bellows, water hoses (including the one that goes THROUGH the TA), Spark Plugs, since they're right there, belts.

And definitely put some drain plug fittings in there with a hose attached to make oil changes easier. I just drop my hose and put a drill pump on it and pump it out in a couple minutes.....

looking for info on the stainless repair kit for the gimbal ring. My pin is good, used soft aluminum wire last time I repairs the square hole in gimbal.
