Default I need some opinions...best paint for graphics?

I have a 26zx donzi that I want to add some graphics to the side. Something like a newer zr has. What would be the best paint to use with easy of application and durability in mind. It would be painted in a shop but not a booth. Single stage or base\clear? What brands? I have painted cars but not boats.

Thanks

PPG base\clear, then you can sand and buff the lines out of the graphics after you clear it.

I have used PPG, Dupont, Standox, Glasurit, House of Kolor and Nexa Autocolor. Currently using the Dupont system. All are easy to use and will hold up if you do it right. Your best bet is to find a jobber near you that will help you and work with you.

So base/clear is the way to go? I dont have to clear the entire hull side correct? I do like the durability of the gell coat and the graphics would only be on the rear 25% of the hull side.

What about sanding prep tips for the gell coat?

Thanks

not going to work you will have to clear the entire side. or you will have a dry spray edge or hard line tape edge . unless you do not mind a hard tape line. i cant stand to see a tape line or a hard line from a graphic, it has to be smooth as glass no edges wet sand and buff but i am a LITTLE OCD

If you don't want to clear the entire side of the boat you could do like Formula does and do the graphics in Imron. You will have a hard edge on all the graphics.

Go to www.racelinedigital.com and look at their selection of vinyl graphics. The designs are varied and can be sized for your hull. They look good and will save you a lot of work.

You can step the clear over the basecoat edge to seal it down. You will save a ton of money not clearing the sides. Clean it properly and use adhesion promoter. Scuff with red scotchbrite pad and sand with 4-600.

I have seen ZX's done with this method and the edge isn't bad after buffing. Keeps the cost and work down.
