Roll Call / Info for FMO Sat. March 2nd Fun Run to Punta Gorda

It has been a few years since FMO has been up to Punta Gorda. We will be going to a new destination when we visit Laishley’s Crab House. http://www.laishleycrabhouse.com Dockage should be more than adequate and it comes highly recommended so we look forward to our return to Punta Gorda.

Attending Captains should read this information carefully to minimize any confusion.

This is the last of two club fund raising events with the other 4 fun runs being free of charge to club members.

If you are planning on attending this event, please let me know by 2 PM Thursday, Feb 28th as the restaurant must order our food and plan for our arrival in advance. You may e mail me, or post up on our event thread on OSO. I will need to know the total number of attendees as that is the number of meals we will be required to pay for.

Come out and have a great day on the water with like minded powerboat enthusiasts and support FMO’s charitable student scholarship foundation.

If your boat is down for service or repair and you feel like driving to Punta Gorda and joining us for lunch, club members are most welcome to do so. Please be sure to let me know, so sufficient food can be arranged for.

Route:

Our starting point will once again be the south side of the Sanibel Bridge. Boats should assemble around 10:45 am and we will leave by 11:00 AM sharp. Please do not be late for the start as it it unfair to the group as a whole.

My expectation is that we will all run together up the ICW and once we hit the open waters of Charlotte Harbor, if any of the faster boats want to go on ahead they should feel free to do so. Be aware that there are some shoals and hazards to watch for both in the ICW and on Charlotte Harbor and it is important to follow the channel markers that will keep you out of trouble. I will act as the start / pace boat and will lead the group up the ICW to Boca Grande Pass and on up Charlotte Harbor to Punta Gorda. Please be aware that the ICW can be busy and we need to respect others using the waterway.

After lunch: you have the option of choosing one of three ways home. Offshore via Boca Grande Pass, ICW or with it being high tide, an interesting ride back thru Matlacha which FMO has done several times before. I will lead the Matlacha group as we head back south in the channel between Pine Island and the mainland through Matlacha. Some FMO’s have never travelled this route before and it is not difficult when following someone who knows the local waters, with all it's twists and turns. It's another interesting and fun ride and can be done safely. Just stay in single file behind the pace boat once we enter the Matlacha Channel and keep an eye of the boat in front of and behind you. When stopping have your crew raise their arms to let the boat following know you are coming off plane.

Membership information:

All vessels participating in FMO events are required to carry insurance and have a club membership. Memberships are on a calendar year basis and if you have not yet renewed your membership for 2013, or are new and wanting to join the club, you may do so online. Go to www.ftmyersoffshore.org and click on “membership”. You may also renew at any event during the lunch stop. There is no change in membership fees. If you are a current member, we will only need basic information as it is already on file unless there have been changes. People tell me all the time what a great thing FMO has going on here and it can only continue if you continue to show your support for your club. A current copy of your vessel insurance information should be e mailed to myself or Eric Belisle [email protected] who is tracking that on behalf of the club.

Entry fee:

Since this event is one of 2 designated fund raising events we have each year, each boat is required to pay an entry fee of $ 100 payable at our lunch stop. Proceeds from our fund raising activities go to support FMO’s student scholarship fund. I will have a desk set up at lunch so please be sure to stop by and pay your entry fee.

50 / 50 draw: At lunch we will be selling 50 / 50 raffle tickets in support of our FMO student scholarship fund. Please support your Club, and the good work we are trying to do. We will have our draw about 2:45 PM concluding the organized activities for the day.

New FMO clothing line:

We will have available for purchase at our lunch stop at Laishley’s, new hats, visors, ladies v and scoop neck T’s, ladies tank tops, mens T’s in both long and short sleeve in a cool micro fibre material. Any profit generated by the sale of club clothing goes towards FMO’s student scholarship fund.

Fuel / Distance:

From the Sanibel Bridge to Punta Gorda and back should be about 102 miles for those running the ICW both up and back and 92 miles if you take the ICW up and return thru Matlacha. If your return is offshore via Boca Grande, your total mileage will approach 120 miles. Fuel is available at nearby FMO sponsor Punta Gorda Marina. 93 octane is very difficult to find these days so please leave with a full tank if you use high octane fuel.

Food: Create your own Slider Bar (hamburgers, cheeseburgers, buffalo chicken with choices of ketchup, mustard, mayo, onion, lettuce, tomato)
Mini Sandwiches of Ham and Turkey
Salmon Pinwheels
Antipasta Salad
Chips
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Iced teas/sodas/coffee
Price - $22 per person including tax and gratuity. Half price, $ 11 for kids under 12 years.
Wrist bands will be issued after your lunch fee has been paid and prior to you entering the buffet line.

Communication:

Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. My cell number is 239 776 0481. Anyone dropping out after the start should let me know so we do not spend time either waiting or looking for you. Leave a voicemail if no answer.

Pictures:

Club photographer Jay Nichols (OSO Jayboat) will be aboard Team PREDATOR capturing as many pictures of your boats as possible during the coarse of the day. Please be sure to come alongside us for your picture. No need to get too close with Jay’s lense capabilities. Pictures are always best when the sun is behind Jay if possible. Later, Jay will post as many pictures of your boats on our OSO event thread as he can and I will send out links to the membership as to where they can be found including Jay’s Flickr page.
