never really ran in a cruiser, even less in the rough or waves... talking with on friend owning a 310 chaparral, he said he'd rather have his cruiser in big waves, instead of a 35 - 38 or 42 footer speedboat. he was saying the weight, the width and the height of hull side in the front was better.
I was saying I believe more in lenght to overcome the nose going under...
what would you choose? especially those who ran in both type of boats in the rough?

Wide beam does make a difference. Don't think a 310 Chaparral is a wide beam though. Most cruizers are not going that fast so kind of makes a difference, your just plowing through the wave. Kind of like comparing a sword and a wodden mallet.

your really comparing 2 different things.
Since I just came in from shoveling snow, your talking about a big truck with a smowplow vs. a smowmobile. One pushes thru slow and steadyone flies on top. The cruiser pushes thru 2 footers at 10 mph while the gofast stays on top at 70. The cruiser at 70 in 3's would disintegrate and a gofast at 10 in 3's would be bobbing like a cork in a jacuzzi,,,
then there is the skiipers attitude/personality, doing 10 in the cruiser he is sitting down, possibly sipping a relaxing cocktail looking foreward to getting to the bay. The guy in the gofast is screaming wooooohoooo!! having fun and looking forward to getting to the bay. If your a merrygoround kind of guy, go for the cruiser. If your a rollercoaster kind of guy, go for the gofast

I think the poll results will be slanted to the speedboat type due to the site. I mean you don't go to McDonald's for a waffle. I'm sure there are those here who have both type of boats but this site promotes one over the other....... a little bit.

Had the same experience with a friends 28 formula cruiser, up and down the waves, while I would just get on top of them in my 35 Nordic. I would pick length for the waves in my experiences with normal spaced waves

Last summer on Lake Erie there was a day when I was running side by side in my 41 Avanti with my friend in his 350 SS Formula and while we were slicing through the water his boat was bouncing getting airborne at times.
