Trailer Brakes, races and bearings
#1
Going to replace trailer bearings this spring, and while I have them apart replace kodiak disc pads. Been a while since I worked with rotors, races and seals, but have bought a bearing install tool kit. Only thing that worries me is the getting old races out. Should I try a center punch, screwdriver or invest in a brass drift? Also have a spreader to push caliper piston back in. Also will be replacing all the brake hose with new.
Any tips would be appreciated.

I just use a drift pin that's about 6" long. Tap around the circumfrence of the race till it's out and reverse to put the new one in. You'll know when it's seated by the bounce of the hammer. I also only use Timken bearings, the sets for my trailer are still made in the USA! I also only use double lip seals. The only place I've found them is Chanpion Trailers.
Good Luck!

Thanks David, I do have double lipped seals but not Timken bearings yet, that will come later. Just need to get races out, have a seal kit to install new. Just don't want to mare the sides of rotor getting them out.
