502 "take out" engine. Where to buy?
#1
Hello all. I'm restoring an old pantera and I want to buy a complete "take out" 502 (or thereabouts) mercruiser engine.
Where can I buy something like this? I've been looking here for months and I'm finding lots of 454 stuff but no 502's. I'm looking for something with as many accessories as possible as I have nothing left in the hull.
I'm thinking there must be a marine salvage yard somewhere that sells "take outs".
Any suggestions?
Thanks, rob

there is a guy in buffalo ny that has 2 454 mags for sale out of his black thunder , You can come and listen to them run , and do a compression test . IM if you need more info might even sell with exhaust . he has 2 new motors going in that were fully dressed and he wants the old ones gone to buy new exhaust for new motors. make him a offer ( not a fire sale but a fair one ) mags are just good as hp 500 , good heads and 4 bolt mains , not peanut port heads etc

502 in good shape at a reasonable price will be a lot harder to find than a 454.Why don't you get an old ,tired 370 or 420 mercruiser and build an "old school" 496. Might be easier to accomplish than finding a ready to go 502.Or maybe just settle for a decent 454 takeout...Food for thought..........unless price doesn't matter

I just may take that approach. Maybe a 489" stroker.
Thanks guys.
