Default You know what's a good feeling?

Pulling your transom assembly off to upgrade and finding that your transom is solid and dry as a rock!! Especially after horror stories of rotten transoms its always in the back of my mind. Lol now if it would be more then 50 degrees I'd be able to get some serious work done. If I had a garage I wouldn't be worried but I'm not that fortunate.

I figured with all us guys in the mid Atlantic region who are waiting for spring it would be something to talk about.

Carry on OSO...

+1 on that!!
I just did the same thing with my transom assembly and found that everything was solid and dry. I have lots of stuff to do inside my boat but as you said......if spring evere gets here! I don't have a garage big enough for the boat so it's hard to work on it when its outdoors. It doesn't seem worth the effort to spend all that time to uncover the boat for a couple hours of work here and there. I do have my motor out for a refresh and that's in my garage so it gives me something to do until the weather gets better.

I have a brand new shiny motor sitting in my enclosed trailer (aka my mobile garage) and I, like you have lots to do in the bilge. I don't want to put a nice shiny motor sitting in a dingy bilge. Hopefully the motor will be in by late April. They're calling for 75 next week down here.

What Kind of power are you putting in it?

I have a 509 mpi/efi that I will be switching over to a carb setup. Most will say that its a stupid idea, but i think its the right move at this point. Originally my plan was to remove the motor so I could replace the transom assembly and while the motor was out switch the efi over to carb and put it back together and be good to go and possibly sell it.
Unfortunately that's not how it's gonna go. I did a leak down test on the motor and found out that she has quite a bit of blow by through the valves and rings. So i tore the engine down. The cylinder walls don't look bad so I will hone the block and re-ring it get new bearings ect..
Right now I'm hung up on the heads..... I'm not sure if I should just have my 088's rebuilt or go with a set of darts. I am also working with Bob on a custom cam but he is waiting on my decision on the heads.
That's where I'm at.
Still lots to do and cutting it close for time!
I don't think we will be seeing anywhere close to 75* next week.

Thumbs down

It's always something isn't it? I guess it depends how much you want to put in it. We're you happy with the setup before? Switching to a proper sized and jetted carb in my option will run just as well as the efi... 1 less thing to break. My opinion isn't worth much but I like the idea of going back to the carb... I love fuel injection in cars but that's about it in my eyes. I was going to go efi on this engine setup that I have but I ended going back to the good ol carb...

Good luck with everything. If you're considering selling it and are/were happy with the old power id redo the heads you have and spend the rest of the money on gas.

Short boating season in mass though right?

Yupp always something. BOAT...break out another thousand!
Up here in the mass area typically the season for most recreational boaters is Memorial Day to Labor Day. The guys I boat with we all seem to get started in mid to the end of April and go till October or November.
Last year I took my first ride mid March but last year was very mild and my season ended just after Labor Day because of the water leak from my swivel pin on the transom assembly.
Now if I left the stock power in the boat when I bought it in 2010 I would have probably had many years of trouble free boating but what happens you get the SPEED BUG and start adding superchargers and changing your motor out for a bigger one and then your friend builds a nasty motor for his boat then you need to build up your motor even more to keep up with him it never ends.
Oh we'll whatcha gonna do.....ahh the joys of boating!!
