Take a very close look at all the stringers, especially in the cabin area all the way to the bow. If any of it is wet.....run.

What is the best way to do this...? Would a marine surveyor have the tools necessary to do this job?

Also I didnt think that they had wood in their stringers but they must of

A surveyor should, but will they....?

You can take a blunt object, such as the head of a screwdriver and sound all these areas. Also look for discoloration of the wood (black is bad) and or rust-looking drippings in the engine room. And yes, Fountains are loaded with wood as are many others. Do a search in the Fountain forum or Do it Yourself and you will come across several threads that illustrate rot. Here is a good one http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...storation.html
