Default 383 rotating assembly

Looking for a solid 383 assy. Found this 4340 forged assy on jegs. Plan is to use vortec heads with 64cc chambers. This will give 9.5:1 cr. looking for input from good builders.

http://www.jegs.com/i/Scat/942/1-41829/10002/-1#

I have never built a motor from scratch and want that experience. Gonna be looking in the 425 hp range. When I get to the right point I will use Bob Madera for the cam.

I'm not a rich man an will be doing this slowly as current power is still running. Overall idea is 383s with vortec heads. Nothing overly radical. Not even sure I will get the hp without going to dry exhaust.

I'm gonna be looking for good reliable power so I'm not looking to push boundaries.

Any help ideas or tips would be appreciated.

I am in the middle of the almost exact setup as your describing.
I should be recieving my cam and other parts from Bob today or Monday.
I have a nice set of dry joint merc exhaust that I got for the build and Bob said to get aftermarket or loose HP (due to reversion)from the start. FYI
(and my HP TQ ratings should be in the range your looking for also)
Just make sure you tell him exactly what you want out of the build and he'll take you there, might be more $$ Mine was!!! But no regrets, I can't wait!!

I do a lot of river cruising, sometimes 80-100 miles a day, so I needed a dependable set up that could give me a top end blast occasionally. I'm very confident that's what I will have, thanks to Bob.

Yeah no doubt stock exhaust will limit can hence limiting horsepower plus a lil on flow. Hopefully my stock power holds together long enough to get the build done. Lol

I am doing somewhat of the same build with stock 350's right now. Single plane EFI intakes, making my own dry tails, and bolting on a set of Trick flow 185cc heads. I am hoping to get around 420 hp with the cams I am running - I just wanted the EFI for tunability and fuel economy. Let me know how your 383's do, this is something I may do in the future when my short blocks are tired.

That description says unbalanced assembly, maybe better off purchasing a pre balanced one
If you are building it at home

I agree. I went this route with mine. Bought a kit from CNC Motorsports. Eagle 4340 3.750 crank, Eagle 6" H beam, and Mahle forged pistons. The setup was Hines Balanced and came with a sheet showing all work done. The ONLY way to go. Longevity and reliability come from a properly balanced setup. Don't just throw parts in and expect great results.

I will still have a machine shop do machine work, including balancing. I have read a lot not to trust even the balanced ones. Always have them checked. So in that regard I was gonna have the machine shop I choose do the balancing.
